October 2009 -
If you are a fan of the late 1960s and 1970s version of Manhattan's lower east side, then Clayton Patterson is your man. He has been documenting the neighborhood throughout these decades with photographs and videos. If you are a fan of the utopian view of freedom, life, creativity, drag queens, drug dealers and drug denizens -- not to mention anarchists and dropouts -- then the latest presentation at the Alife Presents gallery is calling you home.
The Alife gallery is happily showcasing Mr Patterson's photographs in conjunction with his recently published book, "Clayton Patterson’s Front Door Book."
The book includes over 100 pages of photographs and his personal comments and essays on the details of most images.
For further information, search for “Captured,” a 2008 feature-length documentary about Mr. Patterson, easily found references online for background. File: Alife Gallery Lower East Side |
